How to plan social content when your energy changes
By Ella & Paul
Some days, you have something to say and the words come easily. Other days, opening a draft feels like enough.
Your content plan can make room for both.
Start by noticing what feels manageable today. When your energy is low, break the work into smaller steps. When you feel inspired, prepare posts ahead so you can use your time elsewhere later.
You can stay connected to your work without asking every day to look the same.
Start with an honest check-in
Before opening the calendar, ask yourself:
- What needs my attention outside social media today?
- What part of creating feels manageable?
- What could I make smaller or move?
You might have room to write but not film. Or taking a photograph might feel easier than finding the words. There is no universal list of tasks for a low-energy day. Start with your own experience.
Keep any real commitments in view. A launch date may stay fixed, while the post you make for it becomes simpler.

When your energy is low, break the process into smaller steps
“Create a post” can feel like one task, but it often means choosing an idea, finding an image, writing a caption and deciding when to share it. You don’t have to do all of that at once.
Imagine you are an artist sharing a new piece. Instead of trying to finish the whole post, work through it in small steps:
- Choose one image. Pick a photograph of your work.
- Write one thought. Note why you chose the colours or what inspired the piece.
- Build a short caption. When you’re ready, add a little context to that thought.
- Save your progress. Leave the draft somewhere easy to find when you return.
Each step gives you something to build on. Choosing the photograph can be enough for today.
For a business owner, the starting point might be a question a customer asked. Save the question first, jot down your answer later, then turn it into a short post when you have room.
Keep the format manageable, too. If filming a process video feels like too much, a photograph and a few sentences may carry the idea just as well.

When you feel inspired, schedule ahead for your future self
Some days, the ideas keep coming. You have things to say and the energy to shape them. Use that time to prepare a few posts, then schedule them to go out later.
This creates space between making your content and publishing it. You can give your attention to your artwork, your customers or whatever else needs you without returning to the posting process each time.
Try this:
- Capture the ideas while they’re fresh. Keep a simple list so you don’t have to hold everything in your head.
- Prepare a few posts together. Write the captions and choose the images while you’re in the flow.
- Adapt them for the platforms you use. Start with the same idea, then adjust the format and context for each place.
- Choose your publishing times. Spread the posts across your calendar to suit your plans.
- Give them a final check. Review dates, links and details before scheduling. Move or pause a post if circumstances change.
You don’t need to fill a whole month. Even one or two posts prepared ahead can mean fewer things to organise later.
Leave room to return to replies, too. Decide what you can realistically give that part of the conversation.

Make room for connection
Sometimes the next step is talking an idea through with someone else. A trusted peer might help you find the point of a caption or see a simpler way to share your work.
Ask for the kind of support you want. You can share a draft without explaining everything about how you feel.
Working independently can still include other people.
A place to bring it together
Cohera is energy-aware social media scheduling for creators and business owners. Its check-ins give you space to notice how you feel while planning your content. You decide what to create and when to publish; Cohera does not automatically schedule around your energy.
Paid Studio membership also includes support from the private Cohera Discord community, with access after your first payment. Community access is not included in the trial.

For today, choose one idea and a next step that feels manageable. Let the plan begin there.
