Connect Instagram to Cohera
A complete, step-by-step guide to connecting your Instagram Business or Creator account to Cohera through Facebook, confirming it worked, and fixing the most common setup problems.
Updated 23 July 2026
This guide walks you through connecting Instagram to Cohera from start to finish: what to set up first, how to connect, how to tell it worked, and what to do if something goes wrong.
Why Instagram connects through Facebook
Instagram is part of Meta, the company that also runs Facebook. Professional Instagram accounts are managed through a connected Facebook Page, so Cohera connects your Instagram by asking Facebook for permission to find it.
When you start, Cohera sends you to Facebook’s own login and permission screen. You sign in there, on Facebook, and choose whether to allow access.
Before you start
Three things need to be in place before you connect. Here is what each one means.
An Instagram Business or Creator account
A personal Instagram account cannot be connected directly. You need a professional account, which comes in two types: Business or Creator. Both work with Cohera.
Switching a personal account to professional is free in the Instagram app, and you can switch back at any time.
A Facebook Page connected to your Instagram
Your professional Instagram account has to be linked to a Facebook Page. Just having a Facebook account and an Instagram account is not enough on its own; the two need to be connected to each other.
A Facebook Page is different from your personal Facebook profile. It is the public page you or your business manage.
The right Facebook login
When you connect, log in with the Facebook account that can manage that Page. If you have more than one Facebook account, check you are signed in to the correct one before you begin.
You do not need to unlink or change anything. You only need the right Facebook account to be the one that approves access.
Connect Instagram in Cohera
- Sign in to Cohera.
- Open Settings.
- Open the "Accounts" tab, where your connected accounts live.
- Select "Connect New Account" to expand it.
- Choose "Instagram" (it is labelled "via Facebook").
- Review the three requirements in the "Connect Instagram" window.
- Select "Continue to Facebook".
- If the Facebook popup does not appear, allow popups for Cohera in your browser, then try again.
- Log in to the correct Facebook account.
- Review the access Cohera asks for, and approve it.
- Keep the Cohera Settings tab open while you finish in the popup.
- Wait to be returned to Cohera automatically.
- Check that your Instagram username now appears as connected in Settings.
What Cohera asks permission for
On Facebook’s permission screen, Cohera asks for the access it needs to post for you. In plain terms, that access lets Cohera:
- find your Facebook Page and the professional Instagram account linked to it;
- identify the Instagram account you are connecting;
- publish the posts you approve to that Instagram account.
That is all it is for. Cohera uses this access only to connect your account and to publish content you have approved.
How to know it worked
When the connection succeeds:
- the Facebook popup closes and you return to the Cohera Settings page;
- Cohera shows a message confirming the account is connected;
- your Instagram username appears in your connected accounts;
- you can then choose Instagram when you prepare a post.
Troubleshooting
The Facebook popup did not open
- Allow popups for Cohera in your browser’s site settings.
- Keep the Cohera Settings tab open.
- Choose Instagram again and retry.
No Facebook Page was found
- Confirm you logged in with the correct Facebook account.
- Confirm that account can manage the Page you want to use.
- Confirm the Page exists and is connected to the intended Instagram account.
No Instagram professional account was found
- Confirm your Instagram account is Business or Creator, not personal.
- Confirm it is linked to your Facebook Page.
The two setup guides in "Before you start" above walk through both of these steps.
The wrong Instagram account connected
Cohera connects the professional Instagram account linked to your Facebook Page; it does not show an account picker. To switch to a different account:
- Disconnect the wrong Instagram account in Settings. See Reconnect or disconnect a social account.
- Confirm the correct Facebook account, and that its Page is linked to the Instagram account you want.
- Start the connection again.
Permission was denied
- Start again from Settings and select "Continue to Facebook".
- Approve the access Cohera needs to find and publish to your account.
The session expired or security validation failed
- Close the old Facebook popup.
- Return to Cohera Settings.
- Start the Instagram connection again.
